STAINLESS STEEL 304L
Overview
Known as ultra-low carbon stainless steel, grade 304L is widely used to make equipment and parts that require good overall performance (corrosion resistance and formability). 304L is a lower carbon variant of 304 stainless steel, suitable for applications requiring welding. The lower carbon content minimizes carbide precipitation in the heat affected zone around the welding sections, which in result eliminates intergranular corrosion (weld erosion) in certain environments.
Features of Inox 304L
304L embodies all the features of type 304, such as excellent corrosion resistance and heat resistance. It remains good corrosion resistance post welding or stress relief. It also features deep drawing performance and excellent polishing. 304L is most widely used with low temperature strength and good mechanical properties. It features a single-phase austenite structure, free from heat treatment hardening phenomenon. 304L is non-magnetic and used under temperature -196-800°C.
304L Applications
- 1) Instruments and equipment exposed to chemical, coal and petroleum environments which demand high intergranular corrosion resistance;
- 2) Open-air decorative materials, heat-resistant parts, and parts difficult to be dealt with heat-treatment;
- 3) Freezing container frame and exterior materials;
- 4) Automobile exhaust pipe (below 800 °C);
- 5) Heat resistant equipment parts;
- 6) Others.
